Stylish in the midst of Sicilian baroque cities
Leave the big streets, into the city center of Modica, drive further and further into ever narrower streets and alleys, at some point (have to) leave the car and walk up the stairs, under arches, until you finally reach a typical old town house from the beginning of the 20th century.
Here you can feel at home for a few days. Just like a local of this magnificent, late-baroque city that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside Kimiyà - from the Arabic "Kimiyà" comes the term alchemy - there is a harmoniously successful mix of ancient and modern with a touch of shabby chic in the midst of luxurious cosiness.
The kitchen-cum-living-room and the two bedrooms are furnished with lots of white and wood, and all rooms, bathrooms and the terrace are spectacularly decorated with the most beautiful antique majolica tiles or contemporary works of art and antique artifacts. The hosts of Kimiyà recommend staying here for at least a week in order to implement slow tourism.
Because in addition to the many cultural, architectural and scenic sights in Modica and the surrounding area, there is also enough time to plan for a bit of “Dolce Vita”, the typical Mediterranean way of life. In addition to the daily visit to the piazza to have an aperitivo, this also includes enjoying a real Sicilian breakfast in Kimiyà on your “own” terrace or waiting for dusk with a glass of local wine in the evening when the lights are on in all houses come on and the city lies beneath you like a huge nativity scene.
If you like, you can take a look backstage on our blog.
An alchemical mix of carefully preserved original parts, contemporary art, recycled furniture and a few modern furnishing elements gives this house from the beginning of the 20th century a special touch. During the renovation, the existing materials were used carefully. As much as possible has been reused and upgraded. In addition, only environmentally and health-friendly paints and varnishes were used. Casa Kimiyà is furnished according to the principles of Feng Shui. The mattresses are made of back-friendly memory foam.
Kimiyà contributes its part to sustainability with many small steps. The electricity comes from renewable energies, rainwater is collected and reused. The toilet flushes are equipped with a water-saving system and all electrical devices and lighting are of course as energy-saving as possible. The guests are also asked to separate their rubbish.
