The traditional Swedish wooden house is a lovingly renovated house with a rustic character in a small town in Småland in southern Sweden. There are many beautiful lakes nearby.
Host Philipp Hülsbusch is a lover of southern Sweden, but lives in Berlin. He found the house, which used to be the village shop in the small town of Fagerhults, through an acquaintance. He took it over from a Danish pastor in 2016. It was built at the end of the 19th century and Philipp is now lovingly renovating it piece by piece.
The house offers a cozy warmth thanks to wood heating both inside and in the spacious barrel sauna in the extensive garden. With the preserved old wallpaper, it retains the charm of days gone by. In the kitchen, the converted stone oven and the rustic wood stove take guests back to a nostalgic time.
In the basement, white clay walls and the robust steel stove in the kitchen, as well as the artistically handcrafted entrance door with colorful window panes, dominate the picture. On the upper floor, guests can expect three original bedrooms with clay ovens and a newly designed bathroom with clay walls.
The house exudes a light-filled coziness and offers generous space for relaxation. The natural surroundings and the wide view from the large terrace invite you to linger. The surroundings are particularly impressive due to the numerous lakes and the intense colors that they have to offer.

Sustainable
During the renovations (kitchen, living room, entrance area and both bathrooms), natural materials such as clay, paper and natural colors were used to ensure an ecological construction. Otherwise, the old wallpaper and floors were preserved as far as possible. The well water is naturally treated. Apart from the new windows (with Swedish opening hooks), everything was sourced locally and renovated by craftsmen and by the hosts themselves.
Guests are welcome to help themselves to the currant bushes or apple trees. Otherwise, the farm shop on the neighboring farm offers other regional specialties in addition to homemade goat cheese.
The property relies on well water as its main source, while strict waste separation is practiced according to Swedish standards. In addition, a heat pump ensures a sustainable heat supply.
In the garden there is a sauna with space for up to six people. Guests also have access to bicycles in the shed and a dinghy for the nearby lake.
